Troubleshooting

Unusual Noise

Whenever you hear an unusual noise that seems to be coming from your transmission, we recommend that you bring your car into our shop to have the transmission professionally evaluated by one of our certified technicians. The operation of your vehicle, especially the transmission, should run smoothly with very little noise. If your transmission is making unusual, or unusually loud noises we advise you to bring in your automobile for a Free Comprehensive Transmission Analysis so we can thoroughly assess your problem.

Trying to track a noise within your transmission can be complicated. Noises tend to bounce up and down the drive train. The noise may occur at a certain speed, or when idling or when first starting out. Sometimes the noise can occur when the vehicle is cold or when it's hot. It is possible that the noise can be external to the transmission. In some cases, the noise may indicate a serious transmission problem. Regardless of what the problem may be, it is very important that the noises be checked out as soon as possible. Delaying this process can only aggravate the situation, and in the end up costing you more to have repaired.

Delay Going Into Gear

Delays in going into gear usually indicate that a component of the transmission is malfunctioning. The majority of automatic transmissions contain between 300 to 500 parts. With all of these parts being interrelated and, at times, interdependent of one another, all transmissions will experience some type of complication occassionaly. All of the parts of a transmission are sealed in a hydraulic unit that operates under pressure. In order to properly assess the problem, we advise that you bring your car in and allow one of our certified technicians to perform a Free Comprehensive Transmission Analysis on your car.

Loss of Power

The primary purpose of a transmission is to transmit engine torque to the driving wheels of the automobile. This is accomplished through a number of reduction gears and the use of a torque converter. The performance of your transmission is contingent upon the power that is supplied to it and the driving members to which this power is transmitted. If it is a loss of power that you are experiencing, it may be caused by something other than the transmission. One of the leading causes of this symptom is a clogged exhaust system, which is external to the transmission. Regardless of what the causes may be, a vehicle that experiences a loss of power must be checked by an experienced and trained technician. If the loss of power is attributed to the transmission, we will recommend the necessary repairs to correct the problem.

Hesitation

Hesitation from the stop position or upon the transmission shifting gears is another common problem experienced by transmissions today. Trying to pinpoint the source of this problem can be challenging, because there are many causes of this type of condition. We recommend having your transmission electronically tested by one of our certified technicians to determine the cause of the problem.

No Reverse

Does your car drive fine in the forward direction, but hesitates going into reverse, or perhaps doesn't back up at all? It's possible that this type of transmission failure may not be a serious problem.  However, before reaching that conclusion, it's best to give the transmission a thorough external inspection. There are many possible causes external to the transmission that could produce this type of problem. It may be something as simple as a linkage adjustment, which is considered to be a minor repair. We advise you to bring your car in for a Free Comprehensive Transmission Analysis.

Vehicle Will Not Move

If your vehicle will not move, or if you are afraid to drive it any further, we advise you to call us to have it towed to our repair shop so we can perform a Free Comprehensive Transmission Analysis. Vehicles may stop moving for a number of reasons, and we can better assess the problem by performing a transmission analysis on your car. The first thing we will do is identify why the vehicle stopped. There are several things we will check including proper fluid levels, making certain that all of the linkages and cables that should be connected are connected, evaluating the electronics of the transmission. We will then make our recommendations, which could range from an adjustment, to replacing external parts to an internal inspection. If an internal inspection is required, you will be notified at that time, we will give you the price of a soft parts overhaul. So please contact us and allow us to perform an evaluation of your car before you condemn it due to transmission problems.

Erratic Shifting

One of the most common symptoms that occur with a transmission is erratic shifting. Through the years, transmissions have become increasingly complex, and the process for evaluating the condition of a transmission more involved. With the introduction of high-tech electronic equipment, transmission diagnostics require the expertise of trained and qualified technicians. A transmission that is experiencing erratic shifting can only be thoroughly evaluated by performing a Free Comprehensive Transmission Analysis. This service will be needed to provide a proper diagnosis of the transmission.

Slipping Gears

You’re driving your car and every time you reach a certain speed and the transmission prepares to switch to the next gear, it appears to hesitate and slip.  We see this symptom quite often and it can be difficult to determine what may be causing the transmission to slip. Your car’s transmission may be slipping for a variety of reasons including low fluid level, poor vacuum or a misadjusted or defective shift cable. When you are faced with this type of symptom, we recommend you bring your car in for a Free Comprehensive Transmission Analysis.

Transmission Leaks

Transmission fluid is necessary for the operation of the transmission. The transmission fluid has three main purposes. It transfers power, serves as a heat exchanger and lubricates.  A transmission that is leaking can have an adverse effect on any of these functions. It is important that as soon as you detect a transmission leak to bring your car in and allow us to perform a FREE Comprehensive Transmission Analysis.  This will enable us to determine the source of the leak. A transmission can leak from any one of eleven external areas of your transmission. Many of these areas are considered minor repairs. A transmission can leak from one area and where it drips can be from a different area. The majority of transmission leaks stem from defective seals. However, leaks may be caused by problems other than seals. Many of times transmission leaks do not indicate that there’s a serious problem. But on the other hand, leaks may be the result of a more serious mechanical failure. An inspection by a qualified technician is the best way to tell. The important thing is to try and repair any leaks as soon as they are detected or major trouble is almost surely to develop.
